RAMBLINGS OF A JACK RUSSELL TERRIER

by Anne Kane

What an awesome Christmas! I’m not sure why, but the author let Berkley spend Christmas with us. You remember me talking about Berkley, right? He’s the gorgeous black lab that always lets me get the tennis ball first. What a gentleman!

We also had one of the author’s children and  a grandchild  here for Christmas morning. If you’re good at math, you know that means that at least one human was always available to throw tennis balls. Plus, they all showed up with dog treats. I have them well trained; they bring chicken jerky or dried liver treats. None of those cheap cookie things. A dog has to have standards, after all.  Of course, you know they brought treats for the cats too. I guess they felt they had to be nice to them at least once a year.

We went to another of the children’s houses for dinner that night. It was heavenly.

There were seven small children there, and you know what that means when they are excited and can’t sit still. That’s right! Lots of  tidbits dropped on the floor. Even with Berkley there, there was lots to eat. Turkey. Stuffing. Carrots. Broccoli. (I think vegetables are hard to hold on to because they lands on the floor more than anything else.) Berkley and I were so full when we finished cleaning up the floor that we spent the next hour napping in front of the fireplace. What more could a dog ask for?

Now the author tells me that it’s a new year. I’m not sure why that’s so exciting, but apparently it’s a big deal to humans so I hope you all have a very Happy New Year, full of tennis balls and doggy treats!
